Movie Screening: A New Economy

Wednesday, May 9 - 7 pm

Erickson Theater, 1524 Harvard Ave, Seattle

Q: What if working together for the good of all was the most common business model?

A: A New Economy

On Wednesday, May 9th, we are excited to be co-presenting the screening of A New Economy, with our friends at the BC Cooperative Association. This film profiles exciting co-ops and unconventional businesses that are putting humanity before the bottom line, including:

  • Sensorica, The first commons-based peer production network focused on hardware development, production and distribution in the world.
  • Sole Food Street Farms, an urban farm created by residents as a means of addressing the chronic problems in their neighborhood.
  • Loomio, creators of an app that helps people make decisions together, now used by thousands of democratic organizations worldwide.
  • Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee, a group of women working together to create a better life for the people of their large, urban public housing project
  • London Brewing Co-op, a micro-brewery owned by its workers which partners with local farmers

These efforts are given context by though leaders like The Next System Project’s Gar Alperovitz (author, America Beyond Capitalism) and investor and Capital Institute founder John Fullerton (author, Regenerative Capitalism).

The screening will be followed by a conversation with representatives of the British Columbia Cooperative Association, a federation of 95 co-ops building the new economy in their province.

This event is a part of our year-long celebration of our Co-op’s 40th Anniversary!
