Central Co-op Seattle (formerly known and nostalgically referred to as Madison Market) is Capitol Hill’s full service, community-owned grocer, having continuously served the neighborhood since 1978. The Co-op has occupied the distinctive wedge-shaped corner lot at 16th and Madison since 1999, and before that, operated out of its original location at 12th and Denny.
As the Co-op’s flagship location, the Capitol Hill store has long been a launching pad for neighborhood small businesses and makers, as well as PNW farmers, fishermen, and ranchers, to enter the retail market. Central Co-op is committed to focusing on supporting local vendors and high-quality, transparently-sourced products that meet our rigorous standards.

Central Co-op Tacoma opened at its current location in 2019, following in the footsteps of the former Tacoma Food Co-op on 6th Ave, which merged with Central Co-op in 2016. Central Co-op Tacoma has been enthusiastically supported by the North Tacoma community and beyond, as a purveyor of high-quality, organic fresh foods and hard-to-find local products. All that, and modern, spacious store with a large surface parking lot, to boot!
Our Tacoma store continues to build strong relationships with South Sound vendors, farmers, and makers, and hosts community events throughout the year in its store-adjacent community room.
