Holiday Highlights from the Wine Department

Explore this season’s favorites from the Wine Department with recommendations from our Beer, Wine & Spirits Buyer Josh B.

M. Bonnamy NV Crémant de Loire Brut Rose
100% cabernet franc. Notes of red berries and crisp, clean acidity. The carbonation is spot-on. Perfect with hors d’oeuvres, shellfish, and poultry(or on its own). This is my go-to bubbly year-round. Amazing value. Seriously over-delivers.

Lobo Hills 2017 Inland Desert Auxerrois
The only winery in WA state to produce wine with this varietal. Only 75 cases produced. Auxerrois is a full sibling of Chardonnay. Cool-fermented and aged sur lie for 7 months. Notes of pear, lemon peel, white grapefruit, and stone. Great weight and acidity. Pair with poultry, seafood, lighter pork dishes.
$24.99

Lobo Hills 2015 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
85% Cab Sauv, with 5% each malbec, cab franc, and petit verdot. Aromatics of cassis, blackberry, and tea, with notes of dark berries and cherries on the palate. Balanced acidity and tannins make it easy to pair with almost anything – roasted chicken, beef, cured meats, you name it.
$24.99

Chateau de Pez 2014 Saint-Estèphe Merlot dominant. Decant for an hour or so to allow the wine to soften and release its aromatics. Perfect with classic meat dishes (pork, beef, game, lamb, duck, etc.) Tobacco and dark berries on the nose, with fresh red berries and spice on the palate.
$47.99

Ontañón 2012 Vetiver Blanco
100% viura (aka macabeo) from Rioja. A touch of oak lends some heft to the mouthfeel without interrupting the notes of tropical fruit and citrus. Wonderful acidity and full body. Pair with seafood, cream-based pasta sauces, and roasted chicken.
$12.99

Jean Foillard Morgon Cote du Py 2015
50% chardonnay, 45% pinot noir, 5% pinot meunier. Blended with 30% reserve wines. My favorite champagne under $50. Notes of white flowers and citrus on the nose, with awesome acidity and notes of yeast, brioche, almond paste on the palate. The perlage (bubbliness) is SUBLIME. My friends and I tried this alongside 2009 Dom Perignon and this was unanimously voted as a superior beverage.
