New Year's Eve Sparkling Wine Recommendations

Need some advice on the best bubbly to serve on New Year’s Eve? We asked our Seattle store wine expert, Josh, to tell us about the sparkling wines he’s most excited about this holiday season.

Montinore Estate Vivace Sparkling
$16.99 (reg. $17.99)
A blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Müller-Thurgau.  Certified Biodynamic and Organic!  Incredibly fragrant with apple and zesty citrus on the palate.  Slightly off-dry with great acid and carbonation.  This has been a hit since I brought it in last Autumn!

Vega Medien Brut Cava
$8.99 (reg. $9.99)
Chardonnay and Macabeo, from Valencia, Spain.  Do not let the price fool you -- this is a real gem!  Good carbonation and crisp acidity pair with notes of apples, pears, and citrus. Perfect on its own, in cocktails (try it with lemon and a float of vermouth), or in mimosas.

Lucien Albrecht Cremant d'Alsace Brut Rosé
$16.99 (reg. $18.99)
100% Pinot Noir.  Brilliantly pink, with delicate red fruit notes and great combination of body, fizz, and acid.

The wines below are only available at our Seattle store:

Lucien Albrecht Cremant d'Alsace Brut
$16.99 (reg. $18.99)
A blend of white grapes, including Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.  Surprisingly complex, with a floral nose, a fruity (but not sweet) palate, crisp & clean acid, and fine bubbles.  A really great example of affordable bubs from Alsace.

Champagne Lombard Extra Brut Premier Cru
$29.99
40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir.  20% of the wine used is reserve (past vintages) and all of the fruit is from Premier Cru sites.  I really like Champagnes with high percentages of Pinot Meunier, because it tends to lend a certain spicy complexity that is not terribly common.

Champagne Henriot Brut Rosé
$65.99 (reg. $69.99)
50% Pinot Noir/40% Chardonnay/10% Pinot Meunier… 70% of the fruit is from Grand & Premier Cru sites… 35% of the overall blend is from reserve wines… Wonderful and rich, with plenty of red berries and crisp citrus notes backed up by wonderful minerality thanks to the high proportion of Chardonnay in the blend.

Champagne Delamotte Brut
$57.99 (reg. $65.99)
55% Chardonnay/35% Pinot Noir/10% Pinot Meunier … Delamotte is the sister house to the legendary Salon.  This is a stellar wine, with great freshness and structure thanks to the Chardonnay, while the Pinots provide rich fruit notes and aromatics.

Champagne Aubry Brut Premier Cru
$42.99
55% Pinot Meunier/25% Chardonnay/20% Pinot Noir/5% "other".  50% of the wine is from a "perpetual reserve" that began in 1998 … Another Meunier-heavy wine!  I love it!  Complex and rich, fantastic color, great acid and minerality.
