Pollinator Week

Monday, June 19 - Sunday, June 25

1600 E Madison

Ten years ago the U.S. Senate’s unanimous approval and designation of a week in June as “National Pollinator Week” marked a necessary step toward addressing the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. Pollinator Week has now grown into an international celebration of the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats and beetles.

June 19-25 we join people across the country in appreciating bees and other pollinators and their important role in our environment. Pollinators are often keystone species, meaning that they are critical to an ecosystem. The work of pollinators ensures full harvests of crops and contributes to healthy plants everywhere.  An estimated 1/3 of all foods and beverages is delivered by pollinators. In the U.S., pollination produces nearly $20 billion worth of products annually.

During Pollinator Week, look for tags on fruits, nuts, spices, and more foods that we can thank our buzzy friends for. We’ll also have demos of honey-oriented products from bee-loving local businesses:

Wed, 6/21, 4-7pm: Glory Bee will demo their honey and educate our shoppers on the Glory Bee “Save the Bee’ program

Thurs, 6/22, 4-7pm: Moon Valley Organics will demo:

  • Healing Salves: PsoriaSoothe, EczaCalm, Herbal Heal, Foot Rub, Muscle Rub
  • Beeswax Lip Balms: Coconut Lime, Mint Vanilla, Vanilla, Blackberry, Cinnamon (10% of net products from Herbal Lip Balm are donated to protect pollinators)
