Indie Month: Indie Bakeries Preserve Traditions

It’s our sixth annual Indie Month! Throughout July, it has become a tradition to showcase the hundreds of independent businesses whose products we carry.

In an age of mass-produced baked goods, some bakers have chosen the more difficult path of using traditional methods in order to create more authentic, and delicious, baked goods. Leslie Mackie based Macrina Bakery on the model of the traditional old-world village bakery; the bread has unique characteristics because of the use of available regional ingredients. Seattle Bagel Bakery kettle boils all of their bagels before they go into the oven, which helps seal the moisture in the dough, giving the inside of the bagel a chewy, dense pull-a-part texture. We have these companies' independence to thank when we enjoy these traditional treats!

You can also find products from indie bakeries Flying Apron and Salmonberry Goods in both of our Meat & Seafood Deaprtments.
